Artist Statement
Ruth Marsden
My full-time career is as an Administration Manager locally. I have found painting in my studio a nice contrast.
I started in evening classes on a mixed-media painting course in the autumn of 2007, trying out different combinations of media. I changed classes in 2008, attending the Buckingham Art School, which stretched both my talent and my comfort zone. This has allowed me the confidence to exhibit some of my pictures.
I am now an undergraduate currently studying for a BA in Art part-time at the OCA College of Arts (OU). This is ongoing and has helped me develop as an artist. Experimenting in different styles and mediums.
Inspired by a farming background, the rural countryside, and our travels overseas. The countryside holds a variety of subjects and colours.
I have found that my chosen medium, Acrylics, has been enhanced by other painting mediums and styles.
I have found that experimenting with unusual surfaces, reclaimed wood-saws and slate can add a different dimension to my artwork.
Using what you've learned in the Theme, incorporate those elements into your work.
